Links: Sometimes the new backwards record.

No one really has the time to follow all the links in the body of a web-text, this is why a link is a perfect place to hide “hidden” messages that will only be picked up by the ruthless observer who somehow hasn’t developed severe ADHD from living in today’s culture.

Well written web articles will “hide” everything from inane messages the likes of “Paul is dead” to references, images, and videos, that further the meaning of the text. This is why three words in a web article can be more valuable then whole chapters of some books.

Advertising Lesson: Be Yourself

Dove soap, making waves because instead of trying to sell the “be thin, be beautiful” image to women, they say “be yourself” (always a handy slogan). When using a message like “be yourself” you must be careful to not come off like the last 30 seconds of G.I.Joe, Dove has found a way to stay cool whilst spreading their goodie-goodie image:

Some drama from the YouTube commenters:

1. Just so everyone is in the know, thee exact people whom brought you all those magical ads for AXE body spray are the SAME minds behind this new commercial/ all the other “DOVE” ads. So in essence “Talk to your children before we talk to your children”.. Nasty lies these people brainwash you with.

2. Ok. Idiots. Brands market to us the stuff that we are DUMB enough to buy. We are DUMB enough to believe that AXE will get us laid, because AXE is flying off the shelves. DON’T blame the brand. Blame yourselves. This AD is offering an alternative message. Marketers will change when WE do. When we demand something different. Hate this ad? You’re going to get a ton more of the shitty ads that made you mad in the first place!

FUTURE SHOCK

A book written by Alvin Toffler in 1970, based on an article originally published in Playboy, which describes the condition of “future shock” as a personal perception of “too much change in too short a period of time”. Those of you on your third cell-phone update in as many months may see how the term can be used to define some of our states of mind in 2008.

“Future Shock” is currently being co-opted by a group of

musicians based out of Baltimore, consisting of Dan Deacon, Girl Talk, and countless others you have yet to hear about. A recent sold-out concert at The Starlight Ballroom here in Philly had us comparing the scene, rather suspiciously, to that of a rave. Several patrons sported glow sticks or necklaces and adorning at least one young woman’s neck was a blinking pacifier. We were even asked if we had any x. Perhaps these items of the past help deal with the shock of the present, we couldn’t help noticing how many people had phones that were technologically superior to our own.

Regardless of all clothing and communication devices the music was great and the energy levels of the crowd was better then that of most shows we visit. “Future Shock” is becoming a genre to be reckoned with.

YOU-TUBE IS STILL THE BEST THING ON TELEVISION

Paris Hilton on David Letterman. Who knew David Letterman was a complete genius? He keeps asking Paris about jail, even as the girl sticks to one-word answers. . . and then he drinks a bottle of perfume.
